Forces Simplified

An Instructional Video created to help learners identify a variety of forces acting on everyday objects in the world around them.
Background:
This concept instructional project came about as a result of visiting a park several times on vacation last year. Intrigued by the water fountain at the park, I decided to create an instructional video explaining all the forces acting on the water droplets in that water fountain, but do it in a fun and engaging way that individuals without a background in physics could understand.
Process:
I started by researching forces, then scripting the dialog to be conversational in tone and easily relatable to my viewers. Next I began assembling appropriate video and images. I created a storyboard document to help outline the flow of narration and animation.
Next, I recorded the audio file using Audacity, and uploaded it to Camtasia. Then while listening to the audio file, I added markers to note where each section of the script began, allowing me to line up narration with the video and image files as I added them.
I added additional scene transitions as well as onscreen drawings to illustrate various points such as the trajectory of the water, or the forces which were at work in each scene.
Finally, I added two happy sound tracks to liven things up and keep the fun happening while learning science. Appropriate music definitely sets the right tone and adds energy to learning.
